Ireland's "Social Partnership Capitalism" illustrated in one chart:
And it's getting worse. Data taken from eurostat shows that openly advertised procurement contracts for public sector purchasing have risen from 2.6% of Irish GDP in 2005 to 3.4% in 2007 before falling back to 2.2% in 2009.
Any stats on the percentage of those tenders won by Irish companies? Considering we had a situation 2 years ago where an Art college packagde a €170k tender for design work over 2 years specifically to gain interest from outside Ireland because they can't claim back VAT. Therefore, placing Irish designer and agencies s at a distinct disadvantage and minimising the likelihood of their graduates getting work in Ireland. While we the tax payer pays fir the college and staff and now have to pay for the social welfare bill for the students who couldn't get work and those who lost their job because the work wasn't won by Irish agencies... And not to mention the work printers didn't get from the Irish designers...
ReplyDeleteI would like to see how the french award there tenders in relation to the way we do!?
